How our political system has become its own religion

You turn on the television. Flipping through channels, what do you see? Most of us would agree that what is on TV these days is crap. So why is it still around? Politics. That's it. What you were assuming that there was more to it than that? Most everyone is so enthralled with what our leaders are doing. They fall into the traps that ALL our politicians want: follow without thought. Where in the world has cognitive thought gone? What happened to people asking the simple basic questions? The problem doesn't lie with the individual politicians. The common person looks at these men an women who are elected as gods. When shit hits the fan for people, they run to their government with their hands out. When did it become the government's responsibility to take care of yourself? People say we're going to become a social nation. They want to blame the government for that to happen, but what they fail to see it that is what the general population is asking for. Why give up a free handout?

In the end, people get what they ask for. Or should I rephrase: the majority power gets what they ask for. Socialism? I'm not surprised. We are a fickle people; we don't enjoy the basic freedoms that we have now. Most people won't realize what they have until its gone. That is a standard of which our history has shown an repeated time and time again. Look at the Roman Empire, who's Caesars (emperors) were looked up to like gods. Supposedly, our governments and societies are in many ways a parallel. But even the greatest empire to ever have ruled the world fell. More and more they had to take care of its people, causing a government collapse.

What am I trying to say? Even if people don't want to label our politicians as gods, people treat them as so. No one realizes that they are men and women just like us. They have faults and success, just like the rest of us. The pressure these people deal with, yes, is immense. Taking care of a lot of people is a stressful job. So why are we pimping these people for a free handout when they can hardly manage to keep the boat afloat.
